Santa Stuck in a Chimney
Santa Stuck in a Chimney
In 1809 the writer Washington Irving revealed that Santa, when he is delivering Christmas presents, surreptitiously enters the houses of the children on his list through their chimneys. No one has ever questioned why a fat man would insist on wriggling down a skinny chimney into a burning fire, but Irving apparently had the inside scoop. No one has ever discovered anything different. Still, it boggles the imagination. The very absurdity of it brings a smile to your face -- as does this wooden sculpture. This represents what we all have imagined might happen if Santa attempted to slide down a chimney that did not accommodate his considerable girth. Nick shows how to make this humorous project on a band saw, explaining how to make "compound cuts" to create three-dimensional shapes. 9 pages, drawings dimensioned in both English/Imperial and metric, full size templates.
