Christmas Créche

Christmas Créche

Nativity scenes, both large and small, have long been a part of the Christmas celebration. Legend has it that the tradition began with St, Francis of Assisi. While telling the story of the nativity to the common folk of rural Italy, he put a wooden carving of an infant in a feeding trough or "créche" to make his point about the humble circumstances of Jesus' birth.  Italian peasants were soon carving figures from the story, and a few centuries later entire towns in Italy were employed carving Christmas figurines.

Créche has come to mean the setting for a  nativity scene -- not just the trough but the entire stable. This miniature stable is scaled so that it works with the 5" and 6" (127 mm and 152 mm) Christmas figurines sold in many gift and hobby stores. 10 pages in PDF format, step-by-step instructions, and measurements in both English/Imperial and metric. units
